An essential component of any CMM package, TRU-POS LOCATORS are the only correct way to determine the true position of tapped holes.
ASME Y14.5 specifies that “any tolerance of orientation or position, and datum references, that are specified for a screw thread, apply to the axis of the thread derived from the pitch cylinder.”
Gage pins, screw heads or tap shanks are misused because they do not reference the pitch diameter. This can cause a misleading reading making an “in tolerance” hole seem “out of tolerance.”
Using TRU-POS, your inspection department can adhere to specifications with correct gaging methods and achieve faster throughput on the CMM.
